Poems that I've written in my spare time

A lot of these were written by me a long time ago during my later years of high school. I'll try my best to date them to reflect that. There are some that, rereading now three years later, I feel would be more meaningful if certain parts were changed or removed. If any of them have been edited from the original version, I'll make sure to note it. Apologies if they're a lil cringe.

Only the wisest of gardeners
refuse to pick the final flower.

So long
So long has it been since I’ve seen you
Only five long months
A lifetime for someone so young
It is a loss that sinks in with time
An entire childhood I’ve spent with you
What a strange feeling it is
I’ve spent my entire life dreaming
Of the day I leave you behind
Now that it’s come
I want to go back

This feeling
It pulses throughout me
Flowing, pumping, raging
A fire that cannot be extinguished
An anger that cannot be suppressed
My adversary playfully toys with me
And I finish him swiftly

My how the moon beautifully illuminates
The cliffside by our home
A fitting place
For such a tragic story

A warrior travels
Never to stay anywhere for long
Why doesn't he settle down?
Surely a woman would enjoy his company
But no woman may satisfy him
His desires reach far beyond pleasure
He yearns
Yet he knows not what for
So he travels
In search of nothing

A hatred does boil within me
Stronger than any love
Any desire
An insatiable want
To spite those who have wronged me so
But what is there to do?
I find myself powerless once again
And in my search of freedom
I’ve fallen into a cave of darkness

Atop this mountain, I stand
Above all those I have known
And all that I will never know
I glance down below
And though I cannot see them,
I take note of their homes
A small cluster of dots on the horizon
With a turn of my head they are gone
And I’m still here
My instrument beside me
It emits a beautiful sound
Commemorating my departure

It’s hot
Suffocatingly so
Deep black veins sprawl across the ceiling above me
Growing, pulsing
My blankets constrict me even more
I can’t breathe
Please take them off
Give me some air
Turn on the fan
Close the door
It’s too bright
Draw the curtains may they not attack me so
I return from my rest ajar
Laid open and bare for my attackers
Must you enter?
Wait just a moment
I’m not ready
Alright come in
I see nothing
There is darkness where there should not be
I hear the veins, oh how they have returned
I begged for their suppression yet it would seem god wishes me discomfort
They pulse in ways I cannot see, but I feel them
They surround me
My skin, my breath, my eyes
These veins consume me
My veins merging with them
I become them

How the air grows ever cooler
Chilling my skin
Lights dance upon the atmosphere
Bringing joy where there previously was little
I feel as though I’ve missed a vital change
A turn in perception
As if the world I find myself in
Has changed at some point
Yet I know not when

That sound!
Oh that noise!
The terrible cry of death among the night
Why does it haunt me so?
Scaring off sleep and comfort
And leaving me alone
It grows ever nearer
Ever brighter
Ever more powerful
Soon I will be overtaken
A light among this darkness will consume me
And in the dead of a winter’s night
I will perish

Along many journeys have I ventured
Searching for the unknown
An entity of epiphany
Something that may bring upon me a revelation
Bringing sudden meaning to my once empty existence
Surely I will never find it
Such is the way of man
But nevertheless I search
It is in this search that I find it
And in the stopping of the search
I lose it forever

My life I have devoted
Nights of training
Days of thinking
All to master the sword
My skills know no bounds
Nor does my cruelty
I hope to never use such skills on another man
But should the need arise
I will not hesitate

Snow surrounds my body
I sleep soundly within the rushing wind
I know not where I am
Or by what means I find myself here
Yet I am here all the same
I see no escape
Shall I dig in?
Set up camp and hope to survive in this wasteland?
Or must I push on
In an attempt to preserve myself
Search for a more habitable land
But risk a quicker death?
I’ll go
Better to die in search of something
Than to suffer in wait of nothing

These leaves
My how gracious they are
They float along the wind
In colors I cannot recreate
The wind carries a smell
The smell of autumn
And with that smell
Comes the seasonal emotions of a life once experienced
May I never forget

In a brief lapse of control
I let slip the consciousness that is myself
And in doing so
Lose myself forever
To the eternal oblivion of death
How may I now express myself
When there is no self to express?
I weep for those who cannot
Though they may never know

Oh how I yearn for adventure
I wish to leave this life
And be born anew in a land far away
Whose name I know not
And whose language I understand little
Strip myself of all material dependence
And devote myself to the arts
This is the life of my desires
May I reach it someday

My adversary moves quickly
He aims to take me
As I to him
One slip, and it is my life
This is man in its purest form
Expressing oneself through one’s actions
Combatting the actions of another
I love my enemy like a brother
Yet I kill him all the same

The generations of old scorn us
Yet we know not their experiences
Nor do they know ours
In all, their time will be lost
Forgotten by a generation that cares too little
Though we may forget now
We will no sooner be forgotten
Like tears in the rain

Though once I had lost her,
We meet once more
The sky ever pink
That no camera may capture it
A floating leaf blown by the wind
Finally rests on the ground
After great effort
It finds its place upon the earth
As do I with her

The rocks beneath my feet do crumble
“Why then do you continue?”
What else am I to do?
“Find another way of course”
Climbing a mountain,
All paths lead to the summit
No matter the path, my fate is decided
“Why then do you climb?”
For no reason other than to climb

Our deaths approach quickly
Nature approaches its finale
Where will the rest of us go?
Northward, to breathe the mountain air
And of those we've left behind?
We bring only their memory
Until eventually, it is lost

My tears fall upon nothing
As there are none to assist in my task
A warrior journeys across the countryside
And succumbs to the elements

This emotion
Could it be love?
It feels nothing like they say
I find myself alone amidst all my joy
The threat of losing everything,
It looms over me
I lay helpless beneath it
When will its blows end?
Will it allow me to stand once more
Or ensure that I never will?
I do hope it would choose

September 17th, 2021

My how I miss it
The wind caressing me,
An unconditional love
That I may never feel again

All is quiet here
Nobody stays for long
Why do they leave?
In search of meaning, of course
Where will they find it?
They won't
